When Spring Time comes around we all love to do a little something to our home. Maybe it’s Spring cleaning or a remodel. This year I’m s so happy to partner up with The Home Depot to change up my bathroom so it can feel like spring. Yes! I’m excited to share what my husband and I did as a team with the help of The Home Depot products.
Down below I will share a step by step process of what our remodel looked like. You can go easy this Spring or you can go all the way in like my husband and I did.
Demo Day
Demo Day meant taking out everything out of the restroom. This included vanity, mirror, toilet, and the most important part the floor tile. My husband had fun breaking the tile and when all the floor tile was cleared out. Then the next process was to remove the old thin set. This is where I helped my husband. It wasn’t an easy task but thanks to The Home Depot we got a chisel where you can find here Make sure you wear your safety glasses when breaking tile and removing thin set. Safety comes first at all times. How I removed the thin set I used the chisel and a hammer to break it. This took a couple of hours between my husband and I but we accomplished it.
Once the thin set is out of the way the fun part begins. Now make sure that everything is out that includes the dust and any thin set particle that would have been left behind. You can use a vacuum or a broom to make sure everything is out of the way. After that has been accomplished then go ahead and mop it with water. Don’t submerge the mop with water all you are trying to accomplish is a clean floor.
This is where you can start prepping your walls for painting day. My husband went through and patched any holes that needed to be patched. When that process was done then we sanded the wall so we can scruff it up for the new paint. Once we did that process we cleaned the wall with a clean towel to get rid of any dust and dirt. Once that process is done then we started to pain the wall. We used this paint here We painted the wall twice for better results.
By this time you have already picked out your floor. We picked out the Glazed Ceramic Octagon/Dot Mosaic Floor and Wall Tile (1 sq. ft./ each). Down below will be what you need for flooring installation.
Flooring Installation Must Haves
- Floor Tile
2.Thin Set and the one we used is here
3. Trowel the we used is here
4. Foam
5. Tile spacers
6. 4 in. x 9 in. Economy Grout Flooring Float here
7. Grout the one we used is here
Here is what we did when we installed our floor tile. First we did a dry fit just to make sure that everything fits. If you need to cut any tiles you may at this time. We had to cut some of our tiles for the edges and around the toilet hole so it can fit just perfect. We used a wet tile saw and the one we used is here . Once we seen everything was going to fit perfectly, we removed the tile one by one and put them back to the original box so they won’t break.
Now you’re ready for the thin set. You can start off in the corner most seen, for example the tub. You spread the thin set using your trowel at a 45 degree angle a few tiles at a time. Next you put the tile down one at a time pressing down lightly using spacers between each one. You will repeat these steps until all tiles are complete.
Tip 1– If any thin set gets on the top surface of the tiles while laying them, make sure you clean it off with a sponge as you go. Trust me, you’ll thank me later
Tip 2– Have a level handy to lay on top to keep them even with each other. This will ensure you don’t have high or low spots.
Tip 3– Make sure to plan ahead giving yourself a way out. The last thing you want to do is trap yourself in a corner
Alright, once all done with setting your tile you must not touch or step on it for 24-48 hours so it can set. Once it’s ready the next step is grout time.
Grab your sponge, a few buckets of clean water, float and of course your grout. Start off by scooping out the grout a little at a time and spread it using a rubber float. Just like before, you want to do just a small section at a time. You want to make sure you’re getting it into the cracks too and not just on the surface. Dip your sponge in the bucket of water and ring it out real good. Take 1 swipe per side and try not to press down causing dips in the grout between your tiles. Rinse your sponge out and change your water frequently to ensure you have clean water on hand. Continue this process for the remainder of the floor. When done you wait 24hrs so it can dry.
The floor is now completed and dry! Now it’s time to really transform your bathroom. Bring in your toilet and the one we got is here Next will be your vanity and the one we got is here Make sure to use the instruction book that comes with the vanity for proper installation. When the vanity is installed then you will want to install your faucet and the one we got is here We also added a new curtain and we chose white so it can give a bright fresh look. The one we got is here
When everything is installed then you can choose your bathroom decor that you wish. Down below is our finished look of our restroom. We will show a before and after picture. My husband and I had a great time remodeling our restroom so it can feel like Spring.
